Good morning everyone,

Today I realised that if we don’t set our own agenda every single day, someone else may set our agenda for us.

For example, your agenda could be as simple as deciding to take a walk, or visit a place.

If you do not make a conscious decision to allocate time for what you want, and say yes to you, someone else will probably decide how you spend your time.

This could happen in a number of ways but I have set out an example below.

Your agenda is deciding to go for a walk, and you want someone else to join in on your agenda, but they can’t make up their mind if they want to be involved so you hang around waiting for them to make a decision if they will accompany you or not. You end up doing nothing because they either did not get back to you, or they stuffed you around making up their mind and it was too late to go. You could have done something great that would have fuelled your passion, peaked an interest, made you happy or made you feel reinvigorated, but you ended up staying on the couch, or getting stuck inside your house all day because you let the other person set your agenda.

If you often find yourself at the mercy of other people’s agendas, then it’s time to set your own agenda every day. Don’t wait around for others if they are disinterested, or not really happy about being pulled away from what they want to to do. Agendas work both ways. By all means still ask people if they want to join you, but give a timeframe for an answer. Be Assertive. Make a decision to set your agenda and stick to it. Don’t miss out. In life, we get to set our own agenda every single day. We can put our priorities and needs on our agenda and stick to it, or we can be swayed by others that may not have our best interests at heart. This is usually not done out of malice, but because our agendas don’t always match with the agendas of others. Do not be afraid to do things on your own.

Instead of missing out, make a commitment to go after what you want, and do what you want. When we are calling the shots in our own lives we feel more empowered and this leaves us with less regrets and the accumulated feeling of a life well lived.

Have a great day or night wherever you are in the world.
